What the Hell is Happening at the Rebel Media? Part II

News moves fast when there’s dozens of journalists involved.

To catch up on where we’re at, this is a continuation of the 22 August 2017 post What the Hell is Happening at the Rebel Media?

And now, let’s keep the story going. Things are moving fast, so there will no doubt be a part III and a part IV.

edit: This link to The Rebel’s Socialblade shows their declining viewership.

Ezra Levant III

On 23 August 2017, Levant post this on The Rebel along with a 45 minute video. I breezed through it, but I’m not looking to post my opinion.

SPECIAL: The future of The Rebel — Will you stand with us? 23 August 2017

What’s different about this is that he posted his entire 45 minute long show, instead of his usual formula of a several-minutes long video with a transcript.

Ezra says they’ve retained a corporate recruiter and are looking for another manager (without telling us what type of management) and to add a managing editor, saying that they’re rebooting and that left wingers will hate their new reporters as much as they hated the old ones.

Michael Coren I

Michael Coren hosted The Arena on the Sun New Network before they went under and Ezra and Lilley started up The Rebel. I haven’t heard any rumors about him that gave a positive spin on his personality. The Rebel started in February 2015 and Coren tweeted on 1 March 2015 (Link, Archive Link) that he was already no longer involved.

Now, he’s having a field day on Twitter, posting a 15 August 2017 article he wrote for iPolitics entitled Is this the beginning of the end of Rebel Media?

On 23 August 2017, Coren retweeted a Salon story entitled Alt-lite implosion: Video channel Rebel Media is collapsing in aftermath of Charlottesville violence.

JJ McCullough I

J.J. McCullough (JJ McCullough.com, TheCanadaGuide.com, YouTube, Twitter) is an underappreciated writer, YouTuber and artist whose work previously appeared at Sun Media.

Faith Goldy III

Faith’s last video for The Rebel was posted 14 August 2017 entitled Charlottesville, In My Own Words. Despite the apparent assertion by Ezra that she was discouraged from attending, her video which is uploaded on the Rebel’s channel is still available.

On 22 August 2017, she posted a video entitled faith_trailer.mp4 to YouTube asking people to subscribe for future vids.

The top comment is by previous Rebel member Lauren Southern, saying:

H I G H E N E R G Y

Hannah Vanderkooy I

Hannah’s bio on The Rebel site reads:

Hannah is a Gemini, which just happens to be the name of Canada’s Emmy Awards. No pressure, Hannah. Of course, her greatest skill has been putting up with Ezra, as the senior producer of The Source for the past two years on the Sun News Network. Hannah managed to work with Ezra, and actually sat in the cubicle next to him, without the need for prescription medication. Hannah is the managing producer of TheRebel, in charge of all video content. A jill-of-all-trades, she assigns reporters to stories, oversees the editing process and works the camera and reports stories from the field too.

You can see that she’s been involved for a while, for example based on this 5 November 2014 tweet (Link, Archive Link). She was retweeting Levant-adjacent tweets like this one as far back as 5 March 2013.

Her interview with Ezra Levant indicates that she believes that without the Rebel, nobody would talk about important things like M-103 (sorry, Dr. Peterson, your work doesn’t count) or the Somalis sneaking into Canada from the American border (sorry, Faith, I know you were the one covering that).

Eitan Gilboord I

Eitan (who appears to be a former Director of Operations for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party) says that Rebel supporters are people who “want to hear the other side of the story” and to fill in the conservative side of the journalism market.

He seems like a nice fella who’s just trying to do his job properly. His only post on the NationBuilder site (Link, Archive Link) is 15 July 2017 and asks for a feature that allows him to more easily find abandoned donations so he can contact the people who stopped sending money.

On 15 November 2016 (Link, Archive Link), Eitan retweeted Lauren Southern who joked “gotta cool it with the Jew jokes in the office Ezra… NYT is onto us!” in reply to a positive tweet posted by Ezra, saying “No big deal. @Lauren_Southern’s video on globalism is republished by the @nytimes” (Link, Archive Link).

Andrew Scheer I

Andrew Scheer is the current leader of the Conservative Party of Canada (Disclaimer: I voted for Maxime Bernier.)

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer said Thursday he’ll do no further interviews with conservative news outlet the Rebel until it changes its editorial direction, following its coverage of last weekend’s protests in Charlottesville, Va.

Hamish Marshall I

Hamish Marshall, Scheer’s leadership campaign manager was once on the Rebel’s board of directors but is “in the process” of cutting ties and has been for months. Hamish is the President of Torch Research and worked as a pollster in 2008 for the national Conservative Party under Stephen Harper. Their site is powered by NationBuilder, the email campaign service that Caolan mentioned in his initial video.

Hamish’s connection to The Rebel explains why the allegations of election fraud in the 2017 Conservative Party of Canada Leadership Race (where Andrew Scheer won by a hair) was never investigated. The information was not passed on to anyone at the Rebel, and I think Faith Goldy was the only one attending the convention, but there was no follow up by The Rebel where there should have been. The disgusting behavior by the Conservative Party of Canada is the reason that so many Canadian right wingers are willing to fund Ezra’s project. They’re struggling to fundraise because they’ve rejected their base.

On 27 October 2016, The Rebel was identified as a client to Torch in a post by Hamish their website. (Link, Archive Link)

edit — correction: Faith Goldy, Brian Lilley “and others” were at the convention and had an information booth set up for The Rebel.

Gavin McInnes II

On 24 August 2017, Gavin wrote a Takimag article saying that he will no longer be writing for that publication (a site whose comment section spawned the altright in the first place years ago) and will also be leaving The Rebel to work on a new project.

I’m rebooting my whole deal and going mainstream. I’ll announce the platform in about a month but it’s going to include TV, radio, the internet, and books. The deal is an exclusive, which means no more The Gavin McInnes Show on Compound Media, no more video commentary on Rebel Media, and no more column here. That doesn’t mean I’ll be any less prolific.

Caolan Robertson III

Here is a copy of the Soundcloud link with the full fifty minute recording of Caolan Robertson, Tommy Robinson, Ezra Levant and George Llewelyn-John.

Global News has obtained the full recording, made earlier this month, and is releasing it below. The voices on the recording, which is unverified but appears genuine, align with other voice, video and audio recordings of Levant and Robinson.

Hey Caolan, I’d recommend leaking to Buzzfeed. They’re usually happy to play ball.

On 23 August 2017 (Link, Archive Link), Caolan announced on Twitter that they would have a new show “next week.”

This will probably expand in the coming weeks, so please remember to check back every few days for more right wing gossip and the odd column about blockchain technology. Let me know in the comments or at contact AT yesmargaret DOT com whether I made a factual error or if I’m missing a piece of the puzzle.
